Colour saturates all of Shashikala Raj's work.

Bright and joyous, vibrant colour is the leitmotif of the wide-ranging art that
she creates, whether it is her travel inspired cityscapes, landscapes or her
capturing of people in all their moods. Her canvases too, come in all shapes
and sizes, from the conventional to walls, furniture and even the odd rock.
As her medium, she uses oil pastels and acrylics because they lend
themselves to bold, strong lines and unusual combinations. Importantly,
their deep, iridescent colours captivate and bring her paintings alive.
Shashi is a self-taught artist whose work finds inspiration from her
observation of people, her experiences from her wanderings and the vivid
earthiness of her country, India. Being unconventional has given her the
freedom to colour outside the lines, and to experiment and innovate
continuously. This allows her to give what she wants most from her art - for
the viewer to experience the same spontaneous wonder and joy as she did
while creating it.

In her other life, Shashi, with master’s degrees in economics and
management, researches consumers and brands. Even here, her artist’s
perspective overlays cold data analysis to provide out-of- the-box solutions
to marketing problems.

Shashi lives and works in Bangalore and is forever planning her next journey
with family, friends and other animals.
